If you choose to study at Westminster for a semester or academic year, you will take classes (called "modules") alongside British and other international students. The University of Westminster has four campuses and all are well connected via public transport. The three central campuses (Cavendish, Marylebone, and Regent) are within a short walk of each other. The fourth campus (Harrow) is 25 minutes outside of central London via public transport.
Each campus is divided into schools specializing in various academic and professional disciplines and you can select modules from a wide range of subject areas. There are also a number of modules that have been designed specifically for study abroad students to maximize the London aspect of their study abroad experience. You can access services and classes across all campuses.

Your program options include:
Study Abroad (Semester or Academic Year) Interested in studying abroad for a semester or academic year? Westminster offers a unique study and learning adventure at one of the most dynamic UK universities in the heart of London. Select 3-4 modules (classes) per semester from a wide range of exciting subject areas.
Study Abroad + Internship (Semester or Academic Year) Study abroad can be more than just a London classroom. Westminster’s semester internship programme will complement and enhance your studies while providing an international dimension to your work experience.
Students who choose the internship option will enroll in 3-4 modules in addition to the internship placement. One of these courses will be the required internship module: Professional & Personal Skills Development. Internships are part time and run for 12 weeks. Alongside your academic studies, you will work 14 hours over 2-3 days per week in your internship.
There are a variety of internship fields available. You will be required to confirm your participation on this program prior to receiving your specific internship placement. The timeline for receiving international internship placements vary; you may not be informed of your placement until after you've arrived in country. As with all study abroad experiences, flexibility and open-mindedness are key.
SOHE Students: If you participate in the internship program you should connect with your academic advisor once your credits from abroad transfer. Your advisor will make the appropriate substitution for your required major internship.
London International Summer School With a wide range of exciting classes, a great social programme and a central London location, the London International Summer School gives you a springboard to have the summer of a lifetime! The program takes place in the heart of central London from mid-June to late-July. The Summer School consists of 2 sessions, each 3 weeks in length. You have the option of completing one or both sessions. Each session consists of one course worth 4 UW-Madison credits.

Location
More than 7 million people live in this world-famous city, and over 350,000 of them are students, many of whom are from outside the UK. London is home to some of the world's best-known monuments, buildings, museums, galleries, sports clubs, restaurants, clubs, shopping and theatres. Westminster's students are ideally placed to explore the city's many dimensions.
The three central London campuses of Marylebone, Regent and Cavendish are located in the heart of London's famous "West End." The Harrow campus offers a more peaceful environment that is still only a short tube journey away from the centre.
Cost of living varies widely by location. Be sure to consult a variety of resources when researching cost of living.
Housing
Semester/Academic Year students Organizing and securing your accommodation is an important step prior to departure. You are responsible for finding your own accommodation; on campus housing is not guaranteed. Most study abroad students choose to live in Westminster’s University housing. University Halls are typically single study bedrooms that are self-catered (cook your own meals) with fully fitted, shared kitchens and communal areas. Some rooms have ensuite bathrooms, while others have shared bathrooms. They have 24-hour security and resident tutors responsible for student welfare. The Halls are all well served by public transport, and are all about half an hour's traveling time from the University campuses.
Important Note: Beginning in Summer 2025, Marylebone Hall will not be an option for study abroad students. Students will be housed in Harrow Hall or Alexander Fleming. Harrow is about 20 minutes from central London (3 stops on the tube). Students who apply for Westminster housing should be prepared for the possiblity of living at Harrow, even if you are not taking classes there.
Harrow campus is not in central London but is only four stops away (approx. 20 minutes) from Marylebone on the Metropolitan line with easy access into central London. Students living there will have the added benefits of being part of a more traditional campus. All rooms are single and en-suite and students can take advantage of all of the activities and facilities available on the Harrow campus. This includes a large library, the Forum social centre, a range of cafes and our brand new Sports Hall and gym which students have free access to. There is also a state of the art music venue which hosts regular music events and the Student Union’s Undercroft bar which hosts a weekly night for students alongside other events such as quizzes.
Alexander Fleming Hall is located in the heart of the lively areas of Old Street and Shoreditch and right on the edge of the old City of London. Rooms are single occupancy with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Students also have access to laundry facilities as well as a new student common room.

International Summer School Students Housing is included in your program fee. You will live in University housing.
Program Considerations
In a physical sense, the on-site experience may be very different from life on the UW campus. You may walk or take public transportation more than you are used to in Madison. The physical activity level will vary by program, but in general you should be prepared for extended periods of time walking, potentially on uneven terrain.
For many students, discovering and experiencing new foods is a part of the experience. It is important to consider any dietary restrictions, whether they are due to health conditions, religious beliefs, or individual needs, and look into whether you can get the foods you need locally.
How you identify yourself in Madison may differ from how people will view you on-site. Consider exploring our Identity Resources to reflect on how your identities may impact your experience. Students with disabilities should keep in mind that attitudes and laws related to disabilities vary by country, and these differences may impact the level of accommodation available in a particular location. Westminster Student Support and Wellbeing The University of Westminster aims to help students flourish and enjoy feelings of happiness, contentment and curiosity so that they are able to engage fully in their personal and academic journey.
Wellbeing support is available to all students and Westminster encourages students to reach out should they require advice and support. The university offers specialist advice on:
• General wellbeing: healthier lifestyles, bereavement, pregnancy, accessing University and external support services
• Disability support: support for students with a disability including helping to put in place adjustments where they have additional support requirements
• Sexual violence and harassment - Westminster's Report and Support tool allows students to report any instances of sexual harassment or violence to the University. Reports can be anonymous, or students can choose to speak to a trained advisor
• Study skills and training: students can participate in academic skills workshops and appointments to extend and develop their study skills and successfully cope with university studies
• Faith and spirituality: a dedicated team of professionals offers spiritual and pastoral support. Students can also sign up for the Mindfulness Programme
• Student Advice on visas and immigration: students can reach out to Westminster's team of visa specialists for any questions about the student visa application or the supporting documents needed, working in the UK, police registration or settling into UK life.
During Orientation Week and throughout the semester, there will be a number of social events for you to participate in, including a welcome and a farewell party to bring together all study abroad students. There is also everything that the city of London has to offer, as well as the Students' Union, which arranges entertainment from quiz and theme nights to comedy and cabaret, and social spaces on every campus. The university also has its own sporting facilities, and there are numerous clubs and societies on campus.
You also have the opportunity for individual travel, and with its central location and good train and bus links, London is an excellent base from which to explore the rest of the UK and Europe.
IAP expects you to be an active participant in preparing yourself for your study abroad experience. As a participant on an IAP program, you will receive a pre-departure orientation, either in-person or online. The type and format of this orientation will vary by program and will be provided to you upon acceptance to the program.
Upon arrival, the University of Westminster provides you with an Orientation Week. This week is designed to smooth the transition to the University of Westminster and London. Academic issues and University regulations are covered in detail, and you are given information about the classes they have registered for. You will also be provided with an individual registration appointment with a Study Abroad Co-ordinator where class choices and timetables are finalized. Issues such as health, safety, security and culture shock are also covered throughout the week.
Visa
US citizens must have a US passport valid for at least six months beyond the program end date. If you need to apply for a new passport or renew your current passport, please do so as soon as possible. A valid passport is required to apply for an ETA or UK Student Visa.
Fall/Spring/Summer students: U.S. passport holders studying abroad in the UK for less than 6 months who are not undertaking work of any kind (including volunteering and interning) do not need a visa but must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) prior to departure. You will enter as a Standard Visitor and be granted this status upon arrival in the UK. You will receive more details about this once you are officially accepted to the program.
Academic Year/Internship Students: Any student studying abroad in the UK for more than 6 months and/or planning to undertake part-time employment (including volunteering and interning) must apply for a UK Student Visa prior to departure. As part of the application process you will be required to make an appointment in Chicago or Milwaukee to have your "biometrics" taken (fingerprints and photograph). This appointment is in person; you are responsible for your own travel arrangements for the appointment.
If you are a UK national you must have a valid UK passport and use it when entering the UK. If you or your parents were born in the UK, you might automatically be a British citizen. Check if you're a British citizen.
You may incur additional fees to expedite a visa application or to re-apply if your original visa application is rejected for any reason. You may also incur additional fees if your visa is delayed and you need to change your flight departure date.
Getting to Your Program
You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. You should wait to book a plane ticket until your program dates and acceptance to the program have been confirmed. Review the Study Abroad Handbook for more info about booking flights & airport logistics.
Insurance
All participants in IAP programs are enrolled in health insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) and the cost of the insurance coverage is included in program fees.
If you are a citizen of a country other than the United States and will remain/study in, or travel to your country of record (the location of your permanent residence), the insurance provided for you is the same as the “study away” insurance provided to U.S. citizens studying on domestic U.S. programs. You may want to explore alternative or additional international health and medical insurance that will cover your needs both while in and during any period of transit to/from your country of record. This may include participation in a national healthcare plan or coverage provided under a personal healthcare plan in your country of record. If you have questions about the coverage of the “study away” plan, please speak with your Study Abroad Advisor.
All other students participating on an international program will automatically be enrolled in Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), the university's international health, medical and repatriation insurance policy.
Program cost information includes program fees, as well as out-of-pocket expenses with notes to help explain costs. Program fees are estimated and can be adjusted at any time. Once accepted, you will receive a cost sheet that includes confirmed program fees and additional out-of-pocket expenses. "The IAP Program Fee" and all processes and policies stated on this cost sheet apply to all participants on programs managed by International Academic Programs (IAP) and in partnership with the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the College of Engineering, and Wisconsin School of Business. All students participating on approved programs are all eligible to apply for scholarships administered through IAP when they meet the scholarship eligibility and selection criteria.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year. Students do not have to be a member of Phi Kappa Phi to apply.

You must be accepted into an accredited study abroad program before the date provided and provide the letter of acceptance as part of your application. 6. Our mission at Going is to help people travel and experience the world. Since 2017, we've helped young travelers get out there and get going. Twice a year, two outstanding students will win $1500 towards their study abroad programs. Benjamin A. Gilman Int'l Scholarship Prgm
Description
The U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman Internatonal Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness. The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

Students with high financial need 2. Students studying in non-traditional countries, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand (Note: Students may not study in a country currently on the Department of State's travel warning list) 3. The Foundation supports Silver or Gold Award Girl Scouts undergrads who plan to study abroad, regardless of their major/minor. Description

Laurent Karim Makward Memorial Scholarship
Description
This scholarship is available to degree-seeking UW-Madison undergraduate students studying abroad on a semester or year-long IAP study abroad program. Applicants must have minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, demonstrated interest in international education, and demonstrated financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000-2,000.
Laurent Makward was the son of Professors Christiane Makward of the Department of French, Pennsylvania State University and Edris Makward, UW-Madison Professor Emeritus of African Languages and Literature and French. Laurent was a participant on Academic Year in Aix-en-Provence program at UW-Madison in 1981-1982. In 1983, he passed away in a tragic accident in France. Laurent’s family and friends established a scholarship in his name, with a stipulation that the monies be awarded to an outstanding student participating on a UW-Madison study abroad program.

Study Abroad Scholars
Description
This competitive scholarship provides students with financial awards starting at $1,500 towards the eligible study abroad program of your choice, and the chance to share your experience with the UW-Madison community upon return. Students attending any program, except the funded Global Gateway programs, in IAP, CALS, ENGR, or WSB are encouraged to apply to become a Study Abroad Scholar. In order to be considered for the Study Abroad Scholars scholarship for this application round, an applicant must:
Be in the process of applying, or have already applied, to an IAP study abroad program (UW Global Gateway Programs are not eligible)

Academic merit and financial need will be considered

This scholarship is available for degree-seeking UW-Madison undergraduate students attending an IAP study abroad program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need (to be determined by FAFSA submission) and maintain Minnesota or Non-Resident residency. Scholarship will be awarded to students participating on a fall, spring, or year-long program. Scholarship award can range from $200-$2,000.

How to Apply
Students accepted to an approved IAP study abroad program for a semester or year are automatically considered for this scholarship if they have completed a FAFSA and submitted all necessary supplemental forms to the Office of Student Financial Aid Office. Students should submit a FAFSA as soon as possible. Funds are disbursed until exhaused for the term.
Mary and Wilbert DuPont Fund Scholarship
Description
This scholarship is available to UW-Madison degree-seeking undergraduates or graduates studying abroad on a UW-Madison IAP program, in partnership with CALS, Engineering, and Business, for a semester or longer. There is a preference for academic year long programs, and those in STEM fields.
This award is made possible through the generous donation of Mary and Wilbert DuPont. It is their wish to help current UW-Madison students study abroad as they strongly believe the experience to be fulfilling and a factor in leading an engaged, positive and successful life.

Bryan Davia Scholarship
Description
This scholarship is available to degree-seeking UW-Madison undergraduate students studying abroad on any UW-Madison study abroad program. Preferences for this scholarship include a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA, financial need, first generation college student, and first time abroad.
The Bryan Davia Scholarship was created in his honor to commemorate his life and to continue to share his gift of enriching the lives of everyone around him. As someone who loved to explore the world and everything life had to offer, Bryan would want nothing more than to help others do the same. Bryan was a compassionate, outgoing, hard working alumni of UW-Madison who cherished his time studying abroad in Barcelona. During his time abroad, Bryan set out to discover everything his new home had to offer. Bryan possessed the ability to extract the energy of a city through the exploration of its music, nightlife, and food allowing him to fully integrate himself within his environment and it’s culture. Bryan understood the value of knowledge gained from experiences and social interactions, rather than just in a classroom. We hope the recipient of this scholarship shares his devotion to balancing hard work with an unrelenting desire to explore, discover, and enjoy every moment in their new city.

IAP Gilman Incentive
Description
IAP will provide a guaranteed $1000 scholarship to students applying to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for the first time and meet the Gilman's scholarship eligibility requirements and application deadlines.
Students can only receive the IAP Gilman Incentive one time in their academic career. No additional application to IAP is needed and our staff will notify recipients after the Gilman scholarship deadline. Award Amount

IAP WISc Scholarship
Description
This scholarship was established by International Academic Programs (IAP) to assist undergraduate student participants in the Wisconsin International Scholars (WISc) Program with building their global competence and citizenship skills, which is the core goal of the WISc Program. Each WISc Scholar is eligible to receive scholarships as follows:
1) 1 scholarship of $2500 toward participation on a short-term study abroad program duration (winter intersession, spring break, or summer), and
2) 1 scholarship of $4000 toward participation on a semester program OR 1 $6000 towards a year long program.
These scholarships can be used for students attending any approved UW-Madison study abroad program.

CALS Study Abroad Scholarships
Description
Students must have their primary academic program in CALS are eligible to apply for scholarships specifically for CALS majors. Students must apply for the Study Abroad Scholars scholarship through IAP to be considered for these awards. Students must have also completed/submitted their study abroad application in order to be considered for a CALS study abroad scholarship.
Students who are completing the Global Health Certificate, but whose majors are outside of CALS (such as L&S) are not eligible.

She hopes that the recipient of the scholarship will fully embrace the experience the culture and opportunities that present themselves while overseas. History Department Global Perspectives Scholarship
Description
History majors at UW-Madison are eager to study and intern abroad and bring what they learn in the classroom to life. The Department of History’s Global Perspectives Scholarship hopes to make this possible for History Majors and those pursuing a Certificate in History. This scholarship provides students with financial awards starting with $1500 towards short term study abroad and intern abroad programs, $3000 towards semester programs, and $4000 towards year-long programs. To be considered for the Department of History Global Perspective Scholarship, an applicant must be: 1. a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student at UW-Madison in good academic and disciplinary standing 2. a History Major or pursuing a Certificate in History 3. Be in the process of applying, or have already applied, to a UW-Madison Study or Intern Abroad program for Summer, Fall, Winter Intersession Spring, or Academic Year. International Internship participants must be enrolled in the Worldwide Internship Program (WIP) online course. Additional consideration will be given to:
-Members of traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education: African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, and Southeast Asian (i.e., Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, Vietnamese) -Students with financial need (EFC of $12,000 or lower preferred) -Students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds (educational or social disadvantage, such as coming from a low-income family, an underserved rural or farming community, attending a school with a limited college preparatory curriculum, or other family circumstances that have affected your educational opportunities) -First generation college students -Students traveling abroad for the first time -Additional funding may be available for students completing internships in Africa while enrolled in the Worldwide Internship Program (WIP).

Global Scholars Scholarship
Description
This scholarship is available to UW-Madison students participating in the following affiliated programs: Center for Educational Opportunity, Chancellor's & Powers Knapp Scholarship Program, First Wave, PEOPLE, or the Posse Program. The scholarship was designed to support Scholars who are engaging in study abroad or study away opportunities during the Winter Intersession and/or Summer; must be participating on an International Academic Programs (IAP) study abroad program, in partnership with CALS, Engineering, Business, & the International Internship Program (IIP).
These internship scholarships are made possible through the generous donations from UW-Madison family and friends. Preference is given to undergraduate students completing unpaid internships, or those who would not be able to participate in the internship without financial support. Students who are underrepresented in their school, major, and/or industry are also prioritized.
