Limited Capacity: This program can accept a limited number of students. There will be more qualified applicants than available spots. The Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) exchange program offers you the chance to pursue world-class business courses in a vibrant Dutch city. Maastricht, the city where the 1992 European Union treaty was signed, is a historical and cultural gem found in the crossroads of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany on the River Meuse. Founded in 1983, SBE is highly regarded in Europe for its unique teaching style and high-quality research. For several years now, a number of national surveys have ranked consistently SBE as the best in terms of education and research. Moreover, SBE has been awarded three prestigious accreditations, resulting the so-called Triple Crown accreditation (an honor that belongs to only 1% of business schools worldwide). SBE is a distinctly international institution with a student population consisting of over 66 nationalities. Of the total 4150 bachelor and master students more than 1500 (40%) have a foreign background. Additionally, the school yearly welcomes about 700 exchange students from around 140 partner universities worldwide.

SBE creates a sound study environment by providing you with modern and technical well-equipped study rooms and research facilities, a large selection of reference books, various work stations throughout the school, as well as a central student services center.

There is no language requirement for studying at Maastricht University. All courses offered are taught in English. Maastricht University SBE's exchange student website outlines what they intend to offer for the current academic year (you will need to navigate to the course catalog). Please note that each semester is offered in three parts, or periods. The third period is not required, so please limit your search in the Maastricht University SBE course catalog to either periods one and two for the fall semester, or periods four and five for the spring semester. Students will choose two courses to take for each period. Courses typically equate to three credits at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Courses are offered to smaller class sizes, around 8-15 students, based on Maastricht University’s unique “Problem-Based Learning” (PBL) system. Courses consist of bi-weekly tutorial group meetings where active participation is expected. Courses at Maastricht University are rigorous, and regular attendance is required.
