The University's proximity to government, parliament and the diplomatic corps delivers a unique experience for students with an interest in international relations.  The ANU Department of International Relations is a leading center for the study of global politics. With one of the world's largest concentrations of Asia Pacific expertise, students have access to a network of scholars and graduates who provide policy advice at the highest levels in Australia, the Asia Pacific and beyond.

The University also plays an important national role in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The unique physical and intellectual environment at ANU allows students to study alongside world-leading researchers. These researchers are working at the forefront of global challenges and specialize in everything from addressing climate change and predicting tsunamis, to developing the world's highest efficiency solar cell and leading major advances in stem cell science for a new era of regenerative medicine.

Optional Academic Internship
The Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) gives students an opportunity to work at the heart of Australian policy and politics.  This elite internship program arranges 13 week research-orientated internships at a variety of Canberra and New South Wales locations.  Internship placements are arranged in Australian federal, state and territory governments, the Australian Public Service and in non-government organizations.  Interns develop career and research skills while building professional networks that can give them an advantage in a competitive employment market.  ANIP is the only program that offers Australian Commonwealth Parliamentary Internships.

ANIP has a variety of course options.  UW-Madison students are permitted to apply for the Australian National Internship A (Undergraduate - ANIP 3003) option.  In addition to your internship course, you will enroll in additional academic courses of your choosing.

Internship students:  You will be required to confirm your participation on this program prior to receiving your specific internship placement. The timeline for receiving your internship placement varies and some students on your program may hear earlier than others. It is likely that you won't be informed of your placement until after you've arrived in country or right before departure.  As with all study abroad experiences, flexibility and open-mindedness are key.
