Multiple, Multiple
The UW TESOL International Teaching Practicum allows you to fulfill your TESOL certificate practicum requirement in an international destination. Students enroll in an accelerated English 515 course in Madison in mid-to-late May before embarking on their practicum in Spain or Japan! You will immerse yourself in a new culture while teaching English, gaining critical professional experience for your TESOL certificate. You will recieve on-site support from trained cooperating teachers, as well as ongoing support and individual mentoring sessions with your English 515 instructor via Canvas and Zoom.
Spain (Summer): One 4-week practicum option is Seville, Spain at the language school Carlos V Education. For the first two weeks you will engage in shadowing and assisting experienced teachers in their classrooms. Then you manage your own classroom with the support of Carlos V supervisors. Besides teaching, you will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops such as cooking or flamenco, cultural visits around Seville such as museums or landmarks, and day trips to nearby cities.

Japan (Summer): Another practicum option is Munakata, Japan at GHJ International's English Teaching Practicum program. After orientation and shadowing, you will teach Japanese students, helping them improve their English conversation skills. You will have the opportunity to visit neighboring cities in Japan.

• Identify and examine how workplace cultures impact workplace dynamics and professional expectations and explain how they operate in their specific host organization.
• Evaluate their workplace performance and how their internship experiences have impacted their competencies in critical thinking, teamwork, cultural understanding and communication, and career planning.
• Identify and present, in both writing and speaking, their host organizations and the contributions they made there.
• Demonstrate a deeper understanding of the complexity of issues and challenges facing their location and organization in a global context

We also recognize the importance of increasing access to study abroad for historically underrepresented student populations. We are committed to diversity and inclusion so that every student can engage with and understand their identity through a new lens and continue to develop and make progress on their personal, professional, and academic goals.

Students must enroll in the accelerated summer course of English 515: Techniques and Materials for TESOL in order to use participation in this program to fulfill their TESOL practicum requirement. This is not administered through IAP and students must pay tuition for this course.
