UW Experience in Principles of Global Business: England

All participants on the 2026 program will receive a guaranteed $1000 scholarship from the Wisconsin School of Business. Declared Accounting majors may also qualify for additional funding.

England, Cambridge

This international learning immersion features a week-long study abroad program in Cambridge and London at the end of an online class. The course will meet for seven weeks of asynchronous online instruction prior to program departure.

The class will provide an introduction to conducting global business and enhance students' understanding of operating abroad. Students will be introduced to the basic global business concepts with an emphasis on cross-border business with the United Kingdom, the largest European trading partner of the United States.

While abroad, students will experience the delightful city of Cambridge while living and learning at Christ’s College (one of the colleges at Cambridge University), then enjoy a brief visit to London to see some companies and sights.

Sample Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in London, transfer to Cambridge, informal reception
Day 2: Morning lecture, half day Cambridge walking tour, Welcome Dinner
Day 3: Morning lecture, punting boat tour on River Cam
Day 4: Morning lecture, traditional high tea, croquet
Day 5: Morning lecture, attend a play
Day 6: Transfer to London, 2 company visits
Day 7: Full day London City Tour, Goodbye Dinner
Day 8: Depart for the US

Learning Objectives

We have overall Goals and Expectations for Study Abroad Participants, covering the personal, academic and professional aspects of study abroad. Additionally on this program, you can:

  • Explain the objectives of business expansion abroad while developing an understanding of entry strategies while recognizing the nature of institutions and forces governing the process of globalization
  • Compare and contrast cultures and societies globally, with an emphasis on the United Kingdom, using socioeconomic and cultural frameworks

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate students from all majors on campus are welcome to apply, though preference may be given to students in the Wisconsin School of Business.
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Open to UW-Madison degree-seeking students only
  • Good academic and disciplinary standing
  • At the time of application and the semester prior to participation, UW-Madison students must be currently enrolled. Transfer Students to UW-Madison need to be currently enrolled at their home institution

This program will coincide exactly with the UW 8-week summer session of June 15-August 9, 2026. Students will earn a total of 3 credits of International Business on the program, split into two parts:

INTL BUS 365 (online summer course, 2 credits)
  • The asynchronous online course will provide academic, cultural, and logistical preparation prior to the summer travel experience.
  • Enrollment in this course is required for participation in the travel. Permission to enroll will be given to students after their acceptance into the program.
  • During the 2026 session, the online course will take place from June 15 until the start of the England portion.
 
INTL BUS 365 (travel at end of online course, 1 credit)
  • The in-country program will take place in Cambridge and London, and will include a variety of meetings with business professions, educators, and students in addition to a number of cultural and social activities.
  • Students will automatically have this credit posted to their summer term after the conclusion of the program.
  • During the 2026 session, the in-country dates are August 2-9.
