Austria, Vienna

The IES Business, Economics and International Relations program in Vienna offers students the opportunity to enhance their education in Austria’s center for trade and international politics. Students take courses in areas such as business, economics, finance, marketing and political science at the IES Abroad Vienna Center. Located in an elegant 17th-century palace in the heart of the city, the IES Abroad Vienna Center is minutes from many of the museums, theaters, and other major cultural attractions that have bestowed international fame on Vienna.

The following three tracks are separately managed by International Academic Programs: European Society & Culture, AND Psychology & Social Sciences, AND Music.

Eligibility

  • Preference is given to admitted Business, Certificate in Business, and Certificate in Entrepreneurship students
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior
  • Open to UW-Madison degree-seeking students only
  • Good academic and disciplinary standing
  • At the time of application and the semester prior to participation, UW-Madison students must be currently enrolled. Transfer Students to UW-Madison need to be currently enrolled at their home institution

IES aims to provide students with the highest quality academic and cultural experience abroad. Courses are taught by world-class professors across a wide selection of disciplines, including Economics, International Business, Marketing, Management, Finance, and Political Science.

Students will take 15–18 credits per semester. Every course is worth 3 credits unless otherwise specified. English language is the default classroom language. If however, you meet the bulleted criteria below, you may take courses in German. 

  • 4 semesters of college-level German are required for fall semester students enrolling in German-taught IES courses.
  • 5 semesters of college-level German are required for spring semester students enrolling in German-taught IES courses.

All students on this program are required to take a German language course (4 credits). For the first few weeks following orientation, you’ll spend half of each day in intensive German language instruction. You'll continue your language instruction for the remainder of the semester. Beginner through advanced levels are available.
